1973

In the 70s milk was a drink only rich people could afford. But by the time when the economy in Taiwan started to rise, milk became more and more a common goods in the everyday life in Taiwan. In order to make milk drinking even more popular and common ,the Taiwanese government sent a group of young professionals to U.S.A. and New Zealand to be trained in dairy agriculture. By the time these young people came back to Taiwan, the government could already using their knowledge to promote dairy agricultural businesses through production, government, and education. The master of our ranch was among these young people trained in the U.S.A.

1975

After being trained for a little bit more than a year, 17 professionals of the trained group looked for a land to start the dairy business under the assisstance of the Bureau of Agriculture and Forest. They found a spot in the area of Nan-he area,Tongxio, Miaoli where they shared about 201 acres of land and 12 cows. There they started the ranch.

1978

The ranch soon faced many problems. External obstacles came from the beef import of New Zealand and Australia; a small milk drinking population and low prices for milk. The interal obstacle came from the fact that most of the villagers left their hometowns to look for better employment. By 1978 only two ranch masters and Mr. Lee were left to run the business at Flying cow Ranch.

1986

In 1986, the aunt of one of the ranch masters made a tourist trip to a farm in Japan. She was impressed by the tourist ranch in Japan, so she decided to bring some brochers from this rach to show them to the ranch master. In 1987, the ranch master went to visit the same tourist ranch, and there, he got the chance to meet with a professor in tourism landscape. He invited him to be the person in charge of laying out a blue print for his ranch to become a tourist ranch. By 1993 a design agency from Europe was hired to plan further details about the farm and later a general coporate design was developed. At this time, the name of the farm was changed to Flying Cow Ranch.

1995

In 1995 the first tourist ticket was sold (The price was then 50NTD). Though at the beginning, many equipments and sites were still not completed, but in order to make the tourists feel that it was worth to come to the ranch, they could exchange their ticket for a cup of milk.
The traditional free cup of milk is still available today.

2003

The Flying Cow Ranch is a leisure ranch.
Flying Cow has become a leisure ranch in central Taiwan where nature and leisure are emphasized for the general public.
We also implemented some packages for school students to experience life on a ranch as their school field trips. In the future, we'll combine production, life, and ecology as our principal.
